Hiking Through the Mind: Changing Our Neural Trails

Hey there, beautiful souls,

The other day, as the sun cast dappled patterns on the ground and birds sang their age-old songs, I found myself on one of my favorite hiking trails. And, as always, the universe presented a lesson – right there between the twisted roots and blooming wildflowers.

Now, if you’ve ever walked or hiked, you know the paths aren’t always a straight line from point A to point B. There are meandering curves, unexpected detours, and sometimes... shortcuts. Yup, those sneaky little shortcuts carved by hikers looking for a quicker way, or perhaps just a variation to their usual path.

During my hike, I was especially taken by how the trail keepers had responded to these unofficial, man-made shortcuts. Instead of letting them become the new path, they placed branches and rocks in the way, guiding wanderers back to the intended path. It’s not about stopping the adventure, but rather ensuring the journey is safe and the ecosystem protected.

And it struck me – isn’t that what I do as a hypnotherapist? Stick with me here.

Think of your mind as this vast, expansive forest. Our thoughts, habits, and beliefs carve out pathways within this forest. Some of these pathways are well-worn from constant use, while others might be overgrown or barely visible. And every once in a while, we feel the urge, the pull, to try a new path or maybe even carve out a shortcut.

But just as the trail keepers put up those obstructions to guide us on the right path, in our minds, we sometimes need a gentle nudge (or a pile of metaphorical branches) to guide us towards healthier, more productive thoughts and habits. In hypnotherapy, that’s my honor and role. Helping with course correction. I get to help place those barriers on the less helpful neural trails, guiding you to pathways that lead to growth, self-discovery, and peace.

Notice the beauty of nature intertwining with these man-made interruptions. It's an authentic, real-world representation of our inner journey. The dynamic dance between where we want to go, where we've been, and the guidance we sometimes need to get there.

So, the next time you find yourself on a path, whether in the woods or in your thoughts, remember: it’s okay to seek a new route or a fresh perspective. Just make sure you have your own internal trail keeper (or maybe a spiritual badass like me 😉) to ensure you’re heading in a direction that truly serves you.

Walk in love, stride in strength, and remember: every path you choose is a step towards discovering your true self.
